A website by residents for residents
Residents turned out in force to launch their community website at the New Bilton Community Association Centre, Gladstone Street on Thursday 28th October 2004. His Worship the Mayor was present to cut the ribbon and say a few encouraging words of praise. He commented that the website was the first of its kind in Rugby and congratulated residents on achieving this accomplishment. The project has been funded by the Warwickshire County Council Community Development Fund. This has paid for the professional advice and assistance of Web Focus Ltd, a Coventry-based company experienced in voluntary and community sector web development.
The residents’ working group comprises Andrea Brown, Martin Sparks,Sheela Hammond and Roy Sandison. The design and construction of the site has been the result of several planning meetings held over the year. At the launch, residents were able to browse through the site and enjoy reading about events and activities in their community.
Sheela Hammond, Chair of the New Bilton Community Association said: "This idea was the brainchild of Gordon Woods, an ex committee member. I merely raised the money. Thanks to him, we now have a community website that we hope will be an online living, growing thing to which residents can contribute. So write in with your news, views and stories. We are looking for volunteers to help manage the site so if you have time, the skills and the inclination, we would love to hear from you”.
