We have identified a number of difficulties that owner-occupiers, private landlords and private tenants experience whilst living in and/or maintaining their homes. It is our intention to hold a consultation event in New Bilton to discuss with local residents the proposed new private sector housing strategy. The consultation event will take place at 7pm on Wednesday 4th March 2010, at the Indian Community Centre, Edward Street. We have specifically chosen the residents of this ward and the Newbold to consult with, as they are likely to receive the most assistance from the Council due to the findings of the house conditions survey. If you require any further information, please contact Jamie Tallon, Neighbourhood Renewal Team Leader, Rugby Borough Council on 01788 533891. We look forward to discussing the strategy with you on 4th March. |

| Womens Swimming | 17/11/2009 |
![]() You may be aware that on Wednesday mornings, a special ladies only swimming session has been running at the Ken mariott's Leisure Centre for over 4 years now. This session will be starting again after a brief summer break next week. Following are some of the details of this session: 1 This session has been especially organised for ladies from the ethnic minority communities. Needless to say that this includes the Irish, Scottish and all the European migrant communities as well. 2 Arrangements have been made to staff the pool with female lifeguards, female coaches etc. so that all women feel comfortable to participate in these sessions, specially if they feel it inappropriate to swim in front of men or with male on-lookers. Screens have been put up where possible on windows of rooms that face the swimming pool. 3 Transport has been organised to pick up people from various pick-up points such as the Benn Partnership Centre etc.. Details of this I don't have with me at this time, but can be arranged to be forwarded if required. 4 Swimmers can be absolute beginners, in which case swimming coaches are on hand to teach. If women know how to swim, they can swim independently, while coaching sessions are going on. 5 The session starts promptly at 9:15 am and ends at 9:45 am. Participants will therefore need to be ready to get into the pool by 9:15 am. 6 The session enjoys some funding. Hence it only costs £ 2.50 per session per swimmer which would need to be paid at the reception on the day. As you can see, a lot of arrangements have been made to make this session possible. If this session is not used, we run the danger of losing this slot along with the arrangements and the funding. May I ask that you promote this activity amongst your family, friends, neighbours and community. Please also promote this session through your local newsletters or websites. Please feel free to contact Gita Natarajan, Benji Evans or Yvonne Frater for any further details. |

| Avon Valley Community Choir first performance, July 1st 2009. | 4/10/2009 |
Born in November 2008, the Avon Valley Community Choir has been a joint project between Avon Valley School and County Music Service, organised by Sheila Allen, Curriculum Manager for music, and County Music Eastern Area Manager, Jeremy Dibb. Fortnightly rehearsals culminated in a performance in the AVS theatre as part of the CMS Summer Musical Festival. The choir performed as a group, and with the Bilton Silver Band and Junior Windband.
Originally it was intended that the choir should last only until this concert. However, we enjoyed it so much that we intend to continue in September! Anyone who would like to come and join us – all ages, no auditions, no solos (unless you want to of course!) Contact Chris Blay, 07807 629103 blay.c@we-learn.com Come along and see – it really is good fun!

| PROMOTING CRICKET FOR WOMEN IN RUGBY | 6/8/2009 |
The England and Wales Cricket Board is responsible for getting more girls playing cricket and they have recruited a regional cricket development officer in each county. It is evident that increased promotion of Cricket is required in Warwickshire and it appears that women lack opportunities in cricket which often explains the low numbers participating in the sport.

| Rugby Discussion Website | 6/8/2009 |
A new discussion website has recently been launched to obtain the views of people on the key issues and concerns affecting their local area.
This approach is currently being piloting across the whole of Rugby and you can add any comments you may have regarding your local area. The purpose of this discussion forum is to encourage debate on the issues affecting your locality and to help us identify the key priorities for your area - and in turn to look at how we can collectively work to address these. The issues raised will (where appropriate) feed into the agendas for Community Forum meetings and help shape a Locality Plan for each locality. It is not intended that this website is used to report specific issues, but rather generate a free flowing discussion about issues in your local area. If you have specific incidents to report, please e-mail: contactcentre@rugby.gov.uk or telephone 01788 533533 In order to join in a discussion you will need to register on the site which will take a few minutes. The website can be accessed from: http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/communityforumsonline Comments can also be made by e-mailing the Rugby Area Partnership Team – rugbyoffice@warwickshire.gov.uk or by writing to us at: Rugby Area Partnership Team, Town Hall, Evreux Way, Rugby, CV21 2RR. |

| Short Report for NBCA on final meeting of reNEW Roads & Transport Action Group. | 25/11/2008 |
The final meeting of the group was held on 11th November 2008 at the Indian Social Club.
Members were pleased to note that work on the two pedestrian controlled Puffin Crossings on Lawford Road was now well underway. The Pinfold Street crossing is nearing completion, and as soon as it is up and running the Holly Bush Zebra Crossing will be upgraded to Puffin. The group thanked County Councillor Doug Hodkinson for all the effort that he had put in to bring this long awaited project to fruition, and also Kerry Horsman-Gray and her colleagues at St. Oswald’s School for organising the petition that had been so instrumental in actually getting the ball rolling. Items to forward to the incoming reNEW Forum (which will take over the work of the Action Groups) were then finalised as “Safer Routes to Schools”; improvements to certain paths and alleyways in New Bilton (currently underway); parking and traffic problems on some roads; consideration of a 7.5t weight restriction on Jubilee Street. Members were pleased that all of the groups meetings since reNEW had started in 2005 had been well attended, and membership during its three year life had trebled from the original five people. A number of projects had been undertaken during this time. Finally, the group thanked Ish Mistry and the Indian Social Club for hosting all of our meetings at such an excellent venue. The first meeting of the reNEW Forum will be on Wednesday 26th November 2008 at St. Oswald’s Primary School, Addison Road, starting at 6.30pm. All reNEW area residents and people working in the area are cordially invited to come along. Brief Report for NBCA from reNEW R & T Group meeting, Tuesday 9th September 2008. As this would probably be the penultimate gathering of R & T as such, it was very gratifying to have an attendance of fourteen at the start of the meeting. Drains in Bridget Street/Avenue Road had been cleared as requested but later in the same day the roads had been resurfaced resulting in some of the top dressing of tar and chippings entering the drains, and also being introduced into homes as people entered! Caravans (2) had again appeared on the Jubilee St/Avenue Road car park, together with fly-tipping. Jamie will follow this up with the appropriate RBC officer. New Group projects for completion during the remainder of the 2008/9 financial year were listed as improvements to (i) Alleyway between Victoria Avenue and Gladstone Street, (ii) Path running from Johnson Avenue – Pavillions development, (iii) Path running from Lawford Road to Bridle Road adjacent to Lawford Bridge Court. Ben had contacted Lynn Harding, WCC Traffic Systems Officer re “Safer Routes to Schools” and had sent the report by the group detailing three school routes that could do with attention. Ms Harding will walk the routes shortly and assess what can be done.. The next – and probably final - meeting of the group will be on Tuesday 11th November 2008 at the Indian Club, 6.00pm. (After the meeting an email was received from Cty Cllr Doug Hodkinson advising that no objections had been received during the WCC consultation regarding the proposed installation of the two Puffin Crossings on Lawford Road between Campbell St and Jubilee St. Work can now go ahead and the new crossings should be in place by around the Half-Term break. At Doug’s prompting, Officers are also looking towards a general upgrading of the tarmac surfaces around the Campbell St/New St junctions with Lawford Road). |

| Calling all local residents –Are you the sort of person we are looking for? | 22/8/2008 |
New Bilton Community Association is intending to seek funding to improve the footpaths linking New Bilton with the villages of Newbold upon Avon and Long Lawford to promote safe and interesting walks into the country side.
New Bilton is boarded by the historic river Avon and contains much flora and fauna along some attractive walks doted with some industrial and war time heritage. While we have made some progress in identifying ownership of a number of footpaths we would like to work in co-operation with local landowners before progressing on this project – this means we need to identify ownership of parcels of land along the footpath routes. If you think you can help with this important work, Please contact project co-ordinator Roy Sandison on 01788 541064 or roy.sandison1@ntlworld.com |
