The New Bilton Community Association
Started in 1999, from an association between Graham Hardwick, the vicar of St Oswald’s Church, Nicholas Wharton of Rugby CVS and Roger Bennett, Communities officer with Warwickshire County Council; with the working title of New Bilton Community Forum.
The Forum developed into The New Bilton Community Association (NBCA), a Company Limited by Guarantee (4243404) and registered Charity (1090048), with the aim of developing social and educational activities within the local community.
The NBCA is managed by a Board of five Directors. Directors carry onerous legal responsibilities and not everyone wants to be one. Therefore, there are five residents who take an active role but who are not Directors. They are the company secretary, graphic designer, website manager, catering manager and a representative on the Rugby Community Cement Forum.
Over the years the NBCA has organised and held annual community fun days, offering free access to a variety of children’s entertainments and entertainers, a New Bilton Community cook book, a residents’ oral history project resulting in the publication of, “Changes in our Lifetime”, a booklet describing New Bilton between the years 1939 to 1989.
In addition the NBCA has its flagship publication “The New Bilton News”, a community newsletter to which residents contribute articles. The newsletter is delivered 4 times a year to residents by a team of some 40 volunteers. The New Bilton News is the longest running community newsletter produced by unpaid volunteers, in Rugby. It was recently featured in an article in the Rugby Times to celebrate its 10 years of unbroken publication.
The Association has a well used and highly praised website at www.newbiltonrugby.co.uk that also features a facebook connection.
The NBCA Centre at 1 Gladstone Street Rugby (Click for map) is disability friendly and has a seating capacity for 25 persons with all attendant facilities. This facility is available free to local resident groups and at very competitive rates to other organisations. If you are looking for office space for long term use, please contact either the Chair or Company Secretary by email for additional information.
